Cooperative Education at Woodbridge College

Preparing Students for the Future Through Real-World Learning

Woodbridge College is proud to offer Cooperative Education, a program that allows students to earn Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) credits while gaining hands-on, real-world experience in career areas they are interested in exploring.

Cooperative Education helps students connect classroom learning to the workplace, build essential employability skills, and make informed decisions about their post-secondary pathways.

Specialized Pathways Available

Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM)
The SHSM program allows students to focus on a specific career sector while completing their high school diploma. Students benefit from:

  • Hands-on learning experiences
  • Industry-recognized certifications and training
  • Career exploration aligned with post-secondary pathways, including college, apprenticeship, university, and the workplace

Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)
OYAP offers students the opportunity to explore skilled trades while still in high school. Through this pathway, students can:

  • Learn on the job with certified tradespeople
  • Earn high school credits while gaining practical experience
  • Begin their apprenticeship journey earlier

Benefits of Cooperative Education

Participation in Cooperative Education helps students to:

  • Explore career options before making post-secondary decisions
  • Build confidence and independence
  • Develop real-world, transferable workplace skills
  • Gain valuable experience employers and post-secondary institutions value
  • Transition smoothly into college, apprenticeship, university, or the workforce

Next Steps

We encourage families to review the Cooperative Education opportunities with their child and discuss how these programs align with their interests and goals.

Students interested in learning more are encouraged to:

  • Speak with their Guidance Counsellor
  • Visit the Cooperative Education Department at Woodbridge College

Cooperative Education is an excellent way for students to explore future pathways, develop meaningful skills, and take an active role in planning for life after high school.
