Final Exams and Culminating Activities in June

Attention families and students:

All students will have exams and/or culminating activities at the end of the school year in June, as they do each semester and each school year in secondary school.  According to YRDSB’s Secondary Reporting Timelines, June exams will be scheduled between June 17 and June 23, with the possibility of Grade 12 culminating activities beginning on June 16th, and class concluding on June 24th. Families are not to book vacations, trips, or other activities during this time. 

If students or families have any questions about final exams and culminating activities in June, they should speak to a Woodbridge College administrator. Thank you!

   YRDSB Accepting Applications for Board Committees

York Region District School Board is accepting applications for membership on two advisory committees that provide important family and community perspectives at the Board level. 

Parent, Family and Community Engagement Advisory Committee (PEAC) 

Applications open May 14 - June 10, 2026.

Parents, caregivers and family members are invited to apply for membership on PEAC. The committee offers families a meaningful opportunity to share their perspectives and support family engagement at the Board level to improve student achievement and well-being.

Equity and Inclusivity Advisory Committee (EIAC)

Applications open May 11 - June 15, 2026.

Family and community members can apply for one of eight positions on EIAC. The committee supports YRDSB’s commitment to providing equitable and inclusive learning and working environments in all schools and workplaces of the Board.

Black Youth Mental Wellness and Empowerment Series - R.I.S.E. Program: 

Resilience, Identity, Strength and Empowerment.

The Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association (NACCA) is delivering an eight weeks Africentric mental wellness workshop series for Black youth up to grade 12, who reside in York Region. The program will be delivered online. All sessions will be supported by a mental health clinician. Please see this link for more information and registration. 

Black Foundation of Community Networks (BFCN) Scholarships & Awards 2026-2027

The Black Foundation of Community Networks (BFCN) will be offering another edition of their Scholarship Application Workshop. Join online on Wednesday, June 10 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

This workshop is open to all Black students from any school board or institution who are currently in Grade 8 or high school. Access to this information is vital and helps Black students and their families make informed decisions about funding options and their continued educational journeys.

A reminder that the 2026-2027 BFCN Scholarships & Awards application cycle has launched! BFCN will once again be awarding six $1000 scholarships and awards to Black students pursuing post-secondary education in accredited Canadian institutions. All online applications and supporting documents must be submitted by July 31, 2026.

Understanding and Navigating the Education System - Families of YRDSB Black Students June 2026 

Virtual Information Session is on Monday, June 15, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

Families, parents, and caregivers, please join us for our monthly virtual meeting, where families with Black children come together to learn about resources and upcoming programs for Black students in both elementary and secondary schools. Lucky Lion Night Market Community Event 

The Lucky Lion Night Market is coming to Vaughan from June 12–14.  Enjoy a weekend of over 100+ food items, local artisan shopping, and vibrant cultural performances, including our must-see Chinese lion dance performances. International Education Services - YRDSB University Mini Fair for International Students

This event is intended primarily for YRDSB international fee-paying secondary students who are interested in learning more about Canadian universities. Representatives from participating universities will be available on site to answer questions and share information about their programs, admissions requirements and campus experiences.

Due to limited capacity, priority registration will be given to current international students in Grades 10 and 11. Registration will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Grade 9 students who register may be placed on a waiting list and contacted if space becomes available. 

For safety and capacity reasons, each student may attend with a maximum of ONE parent or custodian.

York Regional Police Festival - Rise of Road Tennis

Join us at the York Regional Police Community Safety Village in Whitchurch-Stouffville to learn about the game of road tennis and participate in the sport firsthand. Bring your family and friends to learn how to play a sport that originated in Barbados. A mix between the sports of tennis, table tennis, and pickleball, this sport will get you moving. This event will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

YIPI supports youth with leadership potential facing barriers, offering mentorship, job skills, and inspiring careers in policing while strengthening community-police relationships.

York Region Summer Programs 2026

York Region offers subsidies for recreation programs, day camps, and youth overnight camps. Recreation programs and day camp subsidies provide children from families with low income the ability to take part in programs offered by the municipal recreation departments. The youth overnight camp funding helps eligible youth ages 12 to 17 attend an approved overnight camp.

Available Subsidies for:

• Positive Leisure Activities for Youth (PLAY)
• Summer day camp funding
• Youth overnight camp funding

York Region does not guarantee space in programs or camps.

ILIL Registration for 2026-2027 and Summer 2026 Programs

The purpose of this memo is to provide important information regarding registration for the Indigenous Languages and International Languages (ILIL) 2026-2027 program year.

Online registration for our elementary classes opened on April 20, 2026, and secondary ILIL credit course selection will open in June 2026. We are requesting your assistance in promoting our programs with your school communities.

Courses for Grade 9 to 12 students are delivered remotely once a week for approximately 3.7 hours, across 28 to 30 sessions typically held from September to June. Teachers will lead live language lessons in real-time through Google Classroom, providing both synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities during regularly scheduled language classes. Please note that language course offerings may vary based on enrollment.

Volunteer Opportunities

Vaughan Public Library

Vaughan Public Libraries occasionally offers volunteer opportunities to those looking to help others in their community. Volunteers must have completed grade 8 and be a minimum of 14 years of age to apply. Volunteers must successfully complete an interview. Any volunteer that is 18 years of age or older is required to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).

Earth Rangers

Inspiring the next generation of conservationists.

Earth Rangers is the charity that transforms children’s concerns about the environment into positive action.  Earth Rangers is an environmental non-profit charity organization with teen volunteering opportunities.

The ER Teens program is open to youth ages 13-18 and offers flexible, real-world ways to take environmental action. Participants complete hands-on projects at home, at school, or within their community, building leadership skills while making a positive local impact.

SHSM Expansion Coming to Woodbridge College – September 2026
