Final Exams and Culminating Activities in June

Attention families and students:

All students will have exams and/or culminating activities at the end of the school year in June, as they do each semester and each school year in secondary school.  According to YRDSB’s Secondary Reporting Timelines, June exams will be scheduled between June 17 and June 23, with the possibility of Grade 12 culminating activities beginning on June 16th, and class concluding on June 24th. Families are not to book vacations, trips, or other activities during this time. 

If students or families have any questions about final exams and culminating activities in June, they should speak to a Woodbridge College administrator. Thank you!

YRDSB Accepting Applications for Board Committees

York Region District School Board is accepting applications for membership on two advisory committees that provide important family and community perspectives at the Board level. 

Parent, Family and Community Engagement Advisory Committee (PEAC) 

Applications open May 14 - June 10, 2026

Parents, caregivers, and family members are invited to apply for membership on PEAC. The committee offers families a meaningful opportunity to share their perspectives and support family engagement at the Board level to improve student achievement and well-being.

Equity and Inclusivity Advisory Committee (EIAC)

Applications open May 11 - June 15, 2026

Understanding and Navigating the Education System - Families of YRDSB Black Student May 2026 Virtual

Families, parents, and caregivers, please join us for our monthly virtual meeting on Monday, May 25, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., where families with Black children come together to learn about resources and upcoming programs for Black students in both elementary and secondary schools.  Please see our flyer for more information and the registration link. York Regional Police Festival - Rise of Road Tennis

Join us at the York Regional Police Community Safety Village in Whitchurch-Stouffville to learn about the game of road tennis and participate in the sport firsthand.

Bring your family and friends to learn how to play a sport that originated in Barbados.

A mix between the sports of tennis, table tennis, and pickleball, this sport will get you moving. 

This event will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

York Region Summer Programs 2026

York Region offers subsidies for recreation programs, day camps, and youth overnight camps. Recreation programs and day camp subsidies provide children from families with low income the ability to take part in programs offered by the municipal recreation departments. The youth overnight camp funding helps eligible youth ages 12 to 17 attend an approved overnight camp.

Available Subsidies for:

• Positive Leisure Activities for Youth (PLAY)
• Summer day camp funding
• Youth overnight camp funding

York Region Volleyball Summer Programming

Our Board is hosting numerous Summer Volleyball programs around the York Region area for students from Grades 3-11 who are interested in learning and improving their volleyball skills.  Please see the flyers below for more information.

ILIL Registration for 2026-2027 and Summer 2026 Programs

The purpose of this memo is to provide important information regarding registration for the Indigenous Languages and International Languages (ILIL) 2026-2027 program year.

Online registration for our elementary classes opened on April 20, 2026, and secondary ILIL credit course selection will open in June 2026. We are requesting your assistance in promoting our programs with your school communities.

Courses for Grade 9 to 12 students are delivered remotely once a week for approximately 3.7 hours, across 28 to 30 sessions typically held from September to June. Teachers will lead live language lessons in real-time through Google Classroom, providing both synchronous and asynchronous learning opportunities during regularly scheduled language classes. Please note that language course offerings may vary based on enrollment.

Black Youth Mental Wellness and Empowerment Series: R.I.S.E. Program

NACCA is delivering a virtual, 8-week Africentric mental wellness workshop series for Black youth up to Grade 12 who reside in York Region. All sessions will be supported by a mental health clinician. Please see this link for more information and registration.

Volunteer Opportunities

Vaughan Public Library

Vaughan Public Libraries occasionally offers volunteer opportunities to those looking to help others in their community. Volunteers must have completed grade 8 and be a minimum of 14 years of age to apply. Volunteers must successfully complete an interview. Any volunteer that is 18 years of age or older is required to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).

Do West Fest

The opportunity is with Do West Fest, one of Toronto’s largest community street festivals held in the Little Portugal area along Dundas Street West. The festival includes live music, arts, food vendors, cultural activities, and community events, attracting large numbers of visitors each year. They are accepting min 14 years old  persons. Registration link

• Friday, June 5, 2026 — 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM
• Saturday, June 6, 2026 — 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM
• Sunday, June 7, 2026 — 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Location:  Dundas Street West, Toronto, and from Shaw Street to Lansdowne Avenue (Little Portugal neighborhood)

Volunteer roles include helping with festival programming, assisting vendors, supporting visitors, and helping the event run smoothly. It is also a good opportunity for students looking to complete volunteer hours and gain

hands-on experience in large community events.

Earth Rangers

Inspiring the next generation of conservationists.

Earth Rangers is the charity that transforms children’s concerns about the environment into positive action.  Earth Rangers is an environmental non-profit charity organization with teen volunteering opportunities.

The ER Teens program is open to youth ages 13-18 and offers flexible, real-world ways to take environmental action. Participants complete hands-on projects at home, at school, or within their community, building leadership skills while making a positive local impact.

Celebrating Our Cooperative Education Students!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

May has been an incredibly busy and productive month for our Cooperative Education students! As they prepare to wrap up their placements, our students have been reflecting deeply on their hands-on workplace experiences and looking ahead to their future career paths.

To showcase their growth, learning, and the valuable real-world skills they have developed, each student recently had the opportunity to choose one of two creative culminating activities. These assignments allowed them to explain exactly what they did at their placements and demonstrate how the Co-op program helps prepare them for life and work after high school.

Here is a look at the two exciting pathways our students explored:

Culminating Project Options

Our students demonstrated their learning by choosing one of two professional pathways:

• Option 1: The Career Investigation Infographic - Acting as industry experts, students used the myBlueprint planning tool alongside their first-hand co-op experiences to design a visual career roadmap. Their infographics analyzed daily workplace responsibilities, education requirements, average salaries, and labor market trends to create an engaging "call to action" for future candidates.

• Option 2: The Career Advice Slide Deck - Taking a personal approach, students interviewed a workplace supervisor or industry professional to explore a real-world career journey. They synthesized these insights into a creative slide deck highlighting the mentor’s career path, entry-level salaries, the impact of technology, and the top three non-academic skills needed to succeed.

How Co-op Shapes Future Success

Whether designing a polished digital infographic or synthesizing an expert interview, our students have demonstrated incredible critical thinking, communication, and real-world application.

The Cooperative Education program does so much more than provide a break from the traditional classroom. It bridges the gap between school and the professional world, helping your youth build confidence, establish professional networks, and gain a clearer vision of their post-secondary goals.

We are immensely proud of the professionalism, insight, and creativity our students have shown this month. Thank you for your continued support at home as they navigate these final steps toward their bright futures!
